CONTRACTOR'S ROUTINE

Contractor's Routine is the depiction of one day in the life of Jacob Borschevsky, who although apparently harmless, is a rather quirky and strange human being. Due to his lack of skills fitting in with normal society, Jacob has developed a rich and full fantasy life complete with an alter ego, who as his mentor is available at Jacob's beck and call. When Jacob resorts to horrible acts of violence and murder as a means of coping with his considerable frustrations, it is left to the audience to decide - will Jacob's mentor be able to stop the violence from spilling over into the real world? Sometimes while driving down the freeway, an overwhelming urge takes over and thoughts of crashing into other cars enter consciousness. On rare occasions, people actually crash into another car on purpose. People have dark thoughts all the time but they are constrained to rules of the real world. Art versus science, addiction versus habit and fantasy versus reality describe the themes in Contractor’s Routine. It delves in the subconscious and challenges truth. Esau,Jacob's alter ego, enters the story – acting as a mentor to pacify Jacob’s destructive dreams. He tries to keep Jacob on a righteous path, but Jacob’s puzzling addiction is too strong to be hindered. As Esau says, “An addiction remains. It always remains; you can’t wean yourself from an addiction.” Jacob says, “The universe demands balance. Destruction is part of the cycle.”
